Terms, Conditions, and Other Information

Rates

My base rate is $15 an hour. This is $15 per hour I spend transcribing your document, NOT per hour of audio. It usually takes me between 2 and 3 times the length of the recording to transcribe it. I may adjust the $15 base charge upward (to a maximum of $20 an hour), based on conditions such as:

• Turnover. If you need something in a rush, I will adjust this upward accordingly.
• Audio quality. Poor audio quality adds to the time & effort I must spend transcribing.
• Speech patterns. Sometimes people from different areas, or whose native languages are not English, require a greater amount of time & effort to transcribe.
• Background noise. Some recordings are full of extraneous noise, which can range from obstructing or obscuring a word or phrase to obliterating everything that was said.
• Jargon. If there is any specialized vocabulary or knowledge I will need to know in order to satisfactorily complete your transcription, it will help greatly if you tell me where I can get this information.
• Travel. I usually work from home. I would certainly be willing to consider coming to your office or dwelling to work, but may charge extra.
I don’t want to waste your money, which is why if I am having exceptional difficulty transcribing a recording I will contact you to ask how best to proceed.

• Unless compelled to do so by legal authorities, I will never disclose any of your personal information to anyone—ever! That’s why it’s safe to trust me with your fabulous screenplay, confidential legal information, or Great American Novel.
• I will sign any NDA (non-disclosure agreement) that you provide.
• If desired, I will delete your documents off my hard drive or return or destroy any discs / documents upon completion of the job.

• I will always strive to turn around your documents as fast as possible. It is your responsibility to tell me, upon delivery of the audio, when the document is needed. If something changes, and you need the document sooner, you need to tell me and I will do my best to deliver!
• Very occasionally, rare acts beyond my control may affect my ability to deliver upon my turn around time. If this will affect you, I will do my best to contact you so that you can arrange for something else.

• Occasionally, despite my best efforts, there will be speech that will remain indiscernible or below the minimum audio threshold on the recording. I will mark this as either <Garbled> or (Inaudible). Naturally if you can provide illuminating information, it could be very helpful!

• New York State law requires that at least one party to private conversation give his / her consent to being recorded. If it is apparent that I have received audio which was obtained without permission, I will contact the appropriate authorities.

• If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me at any time during our work together.
• I can be reached at any time via electronic mail.
• I really want you to be happy with my work and as such, I will work with you to ensure your satisfaction. If upon receipt of a transcription you would like me to redo a section or the entire document, I will gladly do so free of charge.
